There are few better places to be in the Bay Area at night than Santa Cruz. The reason for this is the Saturn Cafe: though now only open to 4am (it used to be open 24 hours), it's a great place to get late night grub. Strangely enough, it offers no breakfast foods (except during breakfast time, paradoxically), as well as no meat (though the menu lists pseudo-meat items as if they had meat, which can fool you if you don't pay attention).

At the height of my nocturnal cycle (where I would awake around 8pm), I would go to Santa Cruz to spend my midnight hours. This was taken while walking back to my car after a great bowl of Hungarian Mushroom soup at the Saturn Cafe.
